“Passel must be bursting with pride” says renowned wine critic, Matthew Jukes

Passel Estate included in the 100 Best Australian Wines 2025

“Passel must be bursting with pride” says renowned wine critic, Matthew Jukes, as we take our place in his 100 Best Australian Wines Report 2025.

Yes we are!

We are extremely grateful to Matthew for his wonderful tasting notes for our 2018 Passel Estate Lot 71 Reserve Syrah, which also won a Wine Trophy in the International Wine & Spirits Competition:

“Every wine listed here has won its place by gaining mighty scores in my notes…I advise you to act swiftly if you want to buy any of these wines because some are made in tiny quantities”, writes Matthew.

“There is a genuine earthy tang here derived from hand-picked fruit that is treated to ‘whole-bunchcake’ treatment, and this layering of stems and fruit imbues both plush fruit and thrilling acidity in the core of this impressive wine.”

“There is Barbera-like, plummy purity here, which I find magnetic and with one-third of new 500L puncheons employed, some forceful, perfumed carpentry tones are fully on board.”

“A liberal lashing of savoury, peppery spice completes the picture, making this a gorgeous, modern wine, which is perhaps not necessarily a classic Syrah, but it is undoubtedly a Passel Estate GPS-centric wine.”

This stunning wine from our 2018 vintage is available now in the UK, and we will be releasing some from the museum stocks for our wine club next month, to celebrate this fabulous inclusion in Matthew’s highly anticipated annual Best 100 report.
