As the new year pushes ahead at full steam, we are thrilled to reflect on the December 2021 Singapore focused wine article published on JancisRobinson.com by one of the industry’s best; Richard Hemming MV. JancisRobinson.com is respected as a completely independent source of news, views and opinions on wine by some of the world’s greatest palates and wine reviewers. With this in mind, it is exciting to receive recognition for our award-winning single-vineyard wines.

For our International Wine Challenge gold medal-winning 2019 Passel Estate Sauvignon Blanc which is partially fermented in new oak and then aged in stainless steel; Richard gave the wine a review of 16.5 and said ‘pea shoot, lime, lemon, glossy texture, lovely zing and zap. There’s a full-on grassiness but lovely balance’.

Our 2017 Passel Estate Chardonnay, which is aged in French oak for ten months, was also rated a 16.5 and it was reviewed as being ‘mealy, nutty, plenty of smoky oak and showing enjoyable maturity with a long, layered finish. Sophisticated, broad and yet light in body, Beautifully defined fruit and spot-on for this origin and style’.

The 2017 Passel Estate Shiraz, aged for ten months in puncheons, was awarded a 16.5 and Richard shared that the wine had ‘blackberry fruit, vanilla spice and liquorice and just a little peppery character on the length. Finishes with leathery persistence’.

Our Passel Estate 2016 Lot 71 Reserve Syrah, 2020 Decanter Gold Medal and 20% whole cluster with ten months in French oak was awarded a 16.5. Richard shared that ‘there’s a bit of a reductive sulphidic note on the nose, but there’s a lovely purity of fruit beneath. Lots of effort and volume here, full and rich’.

Lastly, our 2015 Passel Estate Lot 71 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon which was the first vintage and aged 18 months in oak, was awarded our highest rating of 17.5. Richard noted that ‘the black fruit is lusciously sweet and generous, with beautifully integrated oak and a long, complex length with a lovely mushroom and dark-chocolate persistence. Maturing very nicely’.

These vintages are still all currently available in Singapore and can be purchased here in Singapore with next-day delivery possible in most cases. Visitors to the Tasting Room or purchasing online in Australia can enjoy the newest vintage releases of these beautiful wines.
