We are thrilled to announce that James Halliday has once again given Passel Estate a five star rating in his newly published Halliday Wine Companion 2019. On top of this, he has awarded incredible points for all of our wines.
While confirming that each of our wines make great choices for cellaring, especially our limited production 2015 Lot 71 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (which he has given a stunning 96 points), Halliday says that our new vintage 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon just released is also an “excellent early drinking style, because its tannins aren’t the least bit aggressive”.

Passel Estate 2015 Lot 71 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon: 96 Points:
“From a single estate block, ‘just-split’ berries cool-fermented in tank, matured in French oak (66% new) for 19 months with a further 12 months in bottle before release. There is an inevitability to its progression from the bouquet thence to the way it travels along the palate, waves of fruit advancing and retreating before the high tension of fine-grained cabernet tannins take control. Gold medals Margaret River Wine Show ’17, James Halliday Cabernet Challenge ’17.”
Passel Estate 2017 Sauvignon Blanc: 95 Points:
“This is a sauvignon blanc that makes you reach for the bottle to pour yourself another glass (or so). It is intense and racy, but relies on fruit, not just acidity to provide its energy…”
Passel Estate 2016 Chardonnay: 95 Points:
“A particularly bright and fresh chardonnay with excellent varietal character, length and balance….”
Passel Estate 2015 Shiraz: 95 Points:
“Bright crimson-purple; there’s a lot of high quality French oak stamped on the bouquet and medium-bodied palate, creating both flavour and texture for the plum and savoury black cherry fruit. The finish is long and convincing, and gets it over the oak line.”
Passel Estate 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon 90 Points:
“Bright, clear crimson; light to medium-bodied, but not wimpy or weak. Bright cassis fruit hasn’t been forced into a style not in its nature. Excellent early drinking style, because its tannins aren’t the least bit aggressive.”
