2020 Passel Estate Chardonnay
2020 Chardonnay
Margaret River, Western Australia
Lemon grass, custard apple, cinnamon, with flavours of yellow peach and grapefruit balanced with tones of wet slate and creamy French oak.
From $45.00 per bottle
Description
Tasting Notes: A rich and complex nose of lemon grass, custard apple, cinnamon and flint. Flavours of yellow peach, freshly whipped cream and grapefruit introduce the palate, guided by a firm and bristling texture, dotted with white fruit tannin, jasmine and subtle hints of dried thyme. The finish is persistent and laced with tones of wet slate and creamy French Oak. Drink now for freshness or be rewarded with cellaring.
Winemaking notes: Our Chardonnay fruit was harvested in the early hours of the morning, loaded into the press cold, and gently separated from its skins. The very slightly cloudy juice was cold settled for a day and then racked. Fermentation took place in French Oak barriques, 35% of which were new. The wine was then left to mature in barrel on its lees for 10 months, with bâttonage occurring every 2 weeks.

"A slightly subdued peaches and cream aroma greets initially. There’s a trace of oatmeal and grapefruit with a slight cut pear nuance. This was quite a small vintage in Margaret River, yet the power of the fruit is evident. This is one of the most powerful yet linear Passel chardonnays I have seen and it is clearly one of the best. I would like to see it in a few years."

"Lanolin, preserved lemon and cashew nut reveal themselves on the nose, while the palate offers salted peach, saffron spice and a wonderful stone-like minerality. Rounded, soft and presenting fabulous typicity."

"Gorgeous spiciness on the nose – really playful, reductive and leesy style. Toffee, baked apple, caramel, all the elements of Aussie Chardonnay that makes it so loveable. Cynics begone! This is what Chardonnay should be all about – pure enjoyment."
