“International Cabernet Day is coming up on 30th August, and Australians have reason to celebrate” says Fergal Gleeson in his story for MargaretRiver.com. “Often referred to as the king of the red grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon is the world’s most widely planted wine grape and it has certainly found a home in the Margaret River Region.”
Passel Estate produces two highly-awarded single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignons which Fergal features in his story.
Made exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon fruit from a single vineyard on the property, each of our Cabernet Sauvignons are pure expressions of both Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon and the specific location of the vineyard.
The fruit is Margaret River’s traditional Houghton Clone, which contributes elegance and black fruit intensity to the wine, with less herbaceous character than is typically associated with Bordeaux reds; and no other grape varieties have been blended: These wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Passel Estate 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has been awarded silver medals at the International Wine Challenge and the Australian & New Zealand Boutique Wine Show.
This 95-point Wine Pilot review from acclaimed wine writer and regular wine show judge, Emma Farrelly beautifully captures the essence of this classic Margaret River flagship varietal:
“Distinct nose of bay leaf, olive tapenade and dark berries. Plenty of power here, in true Margaret River Cabernet glory. Shapely tannins supportive generous fruit power and smart use of oak. Impressive concentration and length. Can most definitely handle something braised and meaty.”
Our limited-production Lot 71 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is only ever made in exceptional vintages and receives extended maturation in the finest French oak barrels, over half of which are new.
Passel Estate 2017 Lot 71 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has received silver medals from prestigious international wine shows including the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge. It has attracted the following 96-point Wine Pilot review from, Emma Farrelly:
“I decanted this for a few hours to allow the wine to reveal itself, and I’m glad I had the patience. I’ve long been a fan of the 2017 Cabernets from Margaret River…a beautiful vintage of restraint and elegance. This is just starting to develop some subtle secondary notes, warm leather, spice cupboard, tobacco leaf and white pepper. There are layers of dark ruby fruit complexity, with plenty of density and concentration. Tannins are tapered and long. A very smart wine.”
In celebration of International Cabernet Day, we will be offering a complimentary upgrade to all of our guided tasting experiences to include a free tasting of the flagship 2017 Lot 71 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon served under coravin.
