2022 Passel Estate Chardonnay
2022 Chardonnay
Margaret River, Western Australia
Freshly cut peaches, baked apple and custard with citrus tones, then orange blossom and nectarines; a quenching and persistent finish of white pear and crushed granite.
From $46.00 per bottle
Description
Tasting Notes: Bold aromatics of freshly cut peaches, baked apple and custard are dotted with tones of grapefruit, zested limes and salted cashews. The palate is powerful and coating, boasting viscous natural acidity laced with flavours of orange blossom and nectarines, carried through to a quenching yet persistent finish of white pear and crushed granite. Drink now for freshness or
be rewarded with cellaring.
Winemaking notes: Our Chardonnay fruit was harvested in the early hours of the morning, loaded into the press cold, and gently separated from its skins. The very slightly cloudy juice was cold settled for a day and then racked. Fermentation took place in French oak barriques, 35% of which were new. The wine was then left to mature in barrel on its lees for 10 months, with bâttonage occurring every 2 weeks. It received a light fining prior to filtration and bottling.

Ray Jordan, West Australian Wine Review 2025
"This is a beautifully precise and elegantly structured chardonnay. It shows a little winemaking influence with a faint struck match complexity working seamlessly into the powerful palate revealing traces of grapefruit, cashew and a little brioche. A fine chalky acidity heightens the dry savoury finish. Impressive wine."

Stuart Knox, The Real Review
"Light straw hue. Grilled pineapple, grapefruit and nougat aromatics. Medium weight, apple and peach fruits with subtle smoky bacon and cashew nut complexity. Acidity sits well integrated to the fruit, it's a supple glide to the flow, no edges or angles as it runs along the palate, just tightening up to freshen the finish."

Cassandra Charlick, Decanter Magazine
"An inviting nose that is pretty, bright and fresh. Candied lemon, saline spritz and white florals followed by a lift of spice. There is a nice layer of oak beneath the brightness, offering toast and hints of crunchy nougat. A generous, mid-weighted palate with golden hues of crushed hay, white florals, flashes of spice, lime spritz, saltbush and sea shell offers up just enough phenolic grip alongside a delicate and youthful acidity. A Goldilocks Chardonnay to enjoy in the dappled afternoon sun; not too opulent, not too lean, just right."
