2018 Passel Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

2018 Passel Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon

Margaret River, Western Australia

Medium to full bodied with fine-grained tannin, velvety smooth with intense flavours of black berries, highlighted by violets and boysenberries.

From $48.00 per bottle

    Description

Tasting Notes: Inky garnet in colour with blue flecks. A bouquet of blackcurrants, mulberries and glazed cherries, hints of cedar and cassis. A dense and coating palate, punctuated by coating tannin dripping in black berries and highlighted by violets and boysenberries. A subtle core of super-fine tannin provides balance to an otherwise powerful onslaught of graphite and red fruits, culminating in a persistent and bristling finish.

Winemaking Notes: The fruit was harvested, and berries just split. After a cool 14-day ferment on skins with multiple, yet gentle daily pump overs, the wine was gently separated from the skins and transferred straight to French Oak barriques, 35% of which were new. The wine was matured for 10 months in oak, before being lightly fined, filtered and bottled.

"2018 will be regarded as one of the greatest, if not the greatest Margaret River cabernet vintages. This is a beautiful example, and I do like the slightly more restrained way the wine has been presented. Perhaps the extra year in bottle before release has helped. Dominant black currant with a little brick dust and graphite on the nose. The palate is seamlessly smooth with the tight core of minerally tannins and fine grained oak supporting it through to a very long finish. A class wine."

"Distinct nose of bay leaf, olive tapenade and dark berries. Plenty of power here, in true Margaret River Cabernet glory. Shapely tannins supportive generous fruit power and smart use of oak. Impressive concentration and length. Can most definitely handle something braised and meaty."
