Save the Date: Join the owners of Passel Estate for a morning of nature conservation on Wednesday 27th May 2020

Nature Conservation at Passel Estate – May 2020

Due to Covid-19, this year’s Nature Conservation morning is sadly not able to go ahead in the current format, although we will still be planting root stocks and continuing with our important conservation projects. If you have pre-registered for this event we will be in touch with you via email.

With the summer coming to an end, it is time to start getting ready for our annual Conservation Morning at Passel Estate. The hard work by our staff and volunteers has proved to be hugely valuable, with many of the plantings from previous years now well established and providing sanctuary and nourishment to our growing number of critically endangered Western Ringtail Possums.

Since last year’s Nature Conservation morning, we have released a further two western ringtail possums and we currently have two more rescued possums rehabilitating in their soft release enclosures in our sanctuary.  It is with great excitement we can report that the releases seem to have been hugely successful, with a new possum-built drey appearing in the trees above the release site, and a recent spotting of a mother and baby in the sanctuary’s foliage.

There continues to be however a great deal of work to do to fully rehabilitate the creek line and strengthen the natural bushland habitat, to enhance the conservation ecosystem and create an ever more ideal environment for our Western Ringtail Possums as well as the other endangered native species that live on the estate.

Once again, we are inviting friends and volunteers to join the owners, Wendy and Barry, on Wednesday 27th May 2020, from 10.00am to 1.00pm, to lend your support to creating the best environment for our local fauna, by helping to plant a further 500 of tube stocks of a variety of native plants beneficial to our native wildlife. Your efforts will be rewarded with a light lunch at the Tasting Room, which you may wish to enjoy with a complimentary glass of Passel Estate wine.

Please wear protective shoes and appropriate clothing for the bush and be prepared for wet weather on the day. Gloves and trowels will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own favourites if you prefer, and please remember to bring your own water bottle.

Volunteers are requested to register before 25th May, by emailing or calling +618 9717 6241, as numbers are strictly limited to ensure a safe and enjoyable morning for everybody.
